Until Dawn (2024)

Rebuilt and enhanced for PC – Until Dawn invites you to relive the nightmare, and immerse yourself in a gripping slasher horror where every decision can make the difference between life and death.

When eight friends return to the isolated lodge where two of their group vanished a year prior, fear tightens its icy grip, and their mountain retreat descends into a nightmare with no escape.

Roles & Responsibilities

Gameplay​​

  • Used documentation alongside the art and animation departments to prototype and implement in engine 10 brand new gameplay interactions for the project

​​

  • Reworked a number of and created new jump scares to work within the new third person camera to maintain and enhance the horror atmosphere of the original game

​​

  • Created new and polished existing Animation blueprint and state machines alongside a custom toolset and visual scripting to optimize and improve the player experience

​​

  • Used in house tools to convert and then polish a large number of assets from Decima into Unreal Engine 5 which included; a large portion of the gameplay interaction components, animations, camera sequences and skeletal meshes

​​

  • Used a custom toolset to set up spatial UI to direct and communicate player action whilst maintaining a sense of immersion

Cinematics

  • Used the Unreal Engine Sequencer with subsequence's, event triggers and frame markers alongside using the animation notify system to ensure smooth and relevant camera cuts

 

  • Improved cameras throughout many gameplay interactions using cinematography techniques to improve immersion and elevate the horror experience, such as dolly zooms

  • Prototyped uniform and easily re-usable camera set ups for interactions and maintained documentation on confluence to enable other designers to implement across the game

​​

  • Used Spline Cameras and Directional cameras to help guide the player in level
